We're building a community of NYC-based motorcycle photographers, filmmakers and artists promoting interchange, common events, mentorship, education and inspiring content ...

Rahoul Ghose, NYC Motorcyclist

THE IDEA

We're building a community of NYC-based motorcycle photographers, promoting interchange, common events, mentorship, education and inspiring content through a monthly, off-season photo night here in the city. The event brings together moto enthusiasts/photographers to socialize and talk about riding and shooting ... we'll have profiled photographers speaking about their experiences, inspirations and advice, and a regular panel discussing moto-photo related topics. After December events will be held the last Thursday of the month through April.

THE DETAILS

NYC's No. 1 action sports store, Filipacchi -- based in NOLITA, Manhattan (North of Little Italy) -- have generously offered their space to host the very first Motos & Photos, Thursday, Dec. 13, and arranged for Brooklyn's Other Half Brewing to be the event's official drinks sponsor. Food (snacks and nibbles) will be served from Spiegel NYC, with funding from NYC Motorcyclist and The Godspeed Company.

Gracing the stage in December will be:

  • Artist-photographer, long-time Miss-Fire and outspoken women's advocate Grace RoselliNYC Motorcyclist feature |

  • Dean 'Chooch' Landry, who captures timeless, character-driven portraits of man and machine through the lens of an antique 1923 Auto-Graflex camera — NYC Motorcyclist feature |

  • Godspeed Co.'s Mike Higgins, a writer, photo buff and vintage moto junky who covers the local moto scene with words and images for the NYC site —

Each will get some individual time to discuss their journey. Then all three will be on a panel to discuss this month's topic:

In a world enamored with video and Instagram posts, how do you stand out as a still photographer shooting moto related images?

GET INVOLVED : SUBMIT YOUR IMAGES

Every event will encourage attendees to participate, with a monthly image submission based a on specific topic.

For December local photogs are asked to submit their best photo exemplifying what it means to ride in NYC. After all in the off season when most bikes go into storage for the winter, we all need some inspiration to hold on to.

The top five, as judged by our event committee, will be shown at the event with photogs brought up to discuss their image. Photos will also be put up in a gallery on NYCMotorcyclist.com and possibly be used in a future issue of Motoveli Magazine.

Hashtag your entries #motosandphotosnyc on Instagram. If we see a photo we really like, we'll also be hashtagging entries. You can also send in your photos using the form linked below, or email them, with your details to rahoul@nycmotorcyclist.com.

NOTE: If you're using the form, once you've attached your image remember to click the 'Begin Upload' button.
