For biker scribe Eddie ‘Sorez’ Pliska, poetry is as much about capturing his passion for the moto lifestyle and the raw energy of two-wheeled travel in prose, as it is about documenting determination in the face of the often-harsh struggles of life. He has had his fair share of both.

Here is Sorez's exclusive October piece, titled La Familia, a tribute to his mom upon her passing. Our hearts go out to Eddie and his family for their recent loss and we pray that they will find strength in friends and family during this sad time. Life moves forward but memories never fade if we keep them close to our hearts.

Sorez, a contributing writer for Outlaw Biker Magazine who also has a popular book of poetry out, graciously pens some inspiration for the NYC Motorcyclist community each month. You can read more about Sorez in a feature NYC Motorcyclist published in the spring of 2018.

LA FAMILIA

There was nothing at all familiar
About the tree that was planted
Decades ago, infertile soil
Branches stunted in growth
Knotted knuckles caused limbs
To scatter in odd directions
Roots not firmly established
Would cause the trunk to lean
Bouts of withering occurred
When sun would not shine at all
The family tree was not nurtured
Storms occurred quite often
Dark clouds cast above
Root rot occurred below
At times spring was for renewal
Throughout seasons branches fell

Out on the road tried and true
Brotherhood was the family found
Through thick and thin regardless
Held onto throughout the storms
Fought with and fought alongside
Gray clouds or when the skies were blue
Twisting throttles to a hundred and two
Decades of miles on the odometer
Scars and tattoos cover my skin
Blood and guts came from within
Now, missing pieces coming together
Don’t ya know a tree grows in Brooklyn
And the family that was lost in the wind
Once again in each other they have found
A reason for being closer than ever before
As the sun shines, the ground is watered
And mom has passed away…
